The DaVinci Resolve Workflow

How expert color grading transforms raw camera data into cinematic masterpieces.

Editing color wheels controller in studio room

When shooting with modern cinema cameras like our RED V-Raptor or ARRI systems, the raw data is captured in a very flat, low-contrast profile known as LOG. This retains maximum highlight details and deep shadows but looks completely gray out of the camera. The magic of color reconstruction happens entirely in post-production inside DaVinci Resolve.

1. Establishing Mood and Brand Identity

Colors have distinct psychological impacts. Cool, dark blue tones generate feelings of tech sophistication or dramatic suspense, while warm gold and soft amber tones evoke nostalgia, comfort, and luxury. During our grading sessions in Pretoria, we establish custom Look-Up Tables (LUTs) unique to your company's visual palette, ensuring perfect brand consistency.

2. Correcting exposure inconsistencies

On-location outdoor shoots are subject to shifting clouds, moving sun positions, and natural shadows. Color grading allows our editors to precisely match shots captured hours apart, establishing perfect chronological flow. This technical discipline ensures that your corporate commercial looks absolutely seamless.

"Color correction makes an image clean. Color grading makes an image evoke pure human emotion."

At Grand Point, color is not treated as an afterthought. It is integrated directly into our production planning, ensuring our sets are lit to support the final target grading style perfectly.
